Congratulations on a Job Well Done!

We accomplished a safe and successful relocation of the ship Saturday and I want to thank each and every volunteer crew member who participated. On very short notice, we fielded a large crew (40-50?) of deckies, engineers, stewards and supercargo. We had some VIPs onboard - Howard Levitt (Interim Superintendent of the Rosie the Riviter...NPS) and Rachel Dragolovich and her husband (Richmond City Attorney who is now developing our berth license/lease).

At our brief organization meeting in the morning, it was clear that every crewmember present was ready to assist in whatever role was needed to get the job done. I was especially impressed with the skill of our engineers handling lines. With the extraordinary effort by George Immisch and his crew to get the Iron Genny running, we had power to the capstans and the cargo winches.

The easy part of the day was casting off and enjoying the voyage upchannel with the Pilot navigating and directing the two assist tugs. The more difficult effort was mooring at Berth 6A, and attaching the electrical shoretie, the water hoses and especially getting the mooring lines in their new locations. Then the doubleups. Then some more doubleups. The Stewards Dept provided a breakfast and an early lunch that helped immensly. It turned out to be a long day, but highly enjoyable working with our fully motivated crew.

The only negative I heard all day was what a pity it was that our first voyage in years had to be ass-backwards up the channel. Well Done to All!
